DITP Boosts Capability of Halal SMEs

The DITP has supported SMEs in halal industries in five southern provinces to enhance their capabilities to compete on the global marketplace.

“The DITP has taught SMEs in five provinces – Songkhla, Satun, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat – in several areas, such as halal standards, improved packaging, product development, professional business management, and international trade rules and regulations. We want them to export their products in the global market and expect to see Thai halal products used in the World Cup 2022 in Qatar,” DITP Director-General, Chantira Jimreivat Vivatrat, said on July 31. “Thailand aims to be one of the five largest halal product exporters in the world by 2021.”

In 2017, Thailand exported about US$5.63 billion of halal food products to international markets, including US$40.94 million of halal food products to Qatar, mainly: fish; fresh, canned and processed seafood; rice; and canned and processed fruit.
