With over 70 Thai groceries in Hong Kong importing over THB1.2 billion (US$37 million) annually, the DITP is encouraging Thai groceries to establish an association to gain greater bargaining power in purchasing Thai goods from wholesalers in Thailand.
“To promote Thai groceries in Hong Kong, the DITP suggests that sellers join together to develop their businesses and increase the efficiency of importing Thai food products,” DITP Director-General Chantira Jimreivat Vivatrat said on January 4.
The DITP is also planning to hold business matching activities for Thai grocers with suppliers while encouraging grocers to take advantage of online sales channels, such as thaitrade.com.
