Horizon talks to Patamon Nisabodee, managing and design director of Cosmos & Harmony about how she makes her products stand out in a crowded soap market.
Could you tell us the story behind Cosmos & Harmony?
Cosmos & Harmony was launched in 2016 at the Bangkok International Gift Fair 2016 and Bangkok International Houseware Fair 2016 (BIG+ BIH 2016). With our idea of giving and sharing, we create soap products to match the lifestyle of people, that make people happy when they use them and want to share them with their loved ones. Now, we also provide liquid soap and other personal care products including shampoos, conditioners and lotions. Our Khao Thai Rice Collection won DITP’s DEmark Award and Japan’s G-MARK Award in 2017.
What makes your products special?
Our soap is not only a bath and body care product, but it is a lifestyle product with specially designed packaging, therefore, it can be given as a gift or souvenir, or even used for home decoration. Our products are made from natural ingredients, especially Thai herbs. We want to create a special bathing experience for our consumers by offering them soaps in different shapes, sizes, designs and scents.
How do you create the product collections?
Each collection has its own story and special properties. First of all, we have to think about the message we want to deliver to our customers. Once we get the collection concept, we select the best ingredients to match our concept, and decide about the production process. For example, we appreciate the value of rice in Thai culture, so we came up with our Khao Thai Rice Collection, which is now our best seller. This collection includes a bar of soap, which are made from famous Thai rice strains, including Khao Hommali (Jasmine Rice), Khao Munpu (Red Rice), Riceberry and Khao Kum (Black Glutinous rice). The rice-shaped soap bars come in special packaging, which tell stories about the process of farming rice. We also offer special aromatic series of personal care products, which are made from Black Glutinous rice.
Who are your customers?
We have different groups of Thai and foreign customers. For personal care, our Thai Rice Collection and From Thai Kitchen collection are preferred because they offer big soap bars. Meanwhile, many overseas customers buy our products as a souvenir and they prefer the collections with Thai concepts, such as Thai Rice. Some Thai customers buy our products as a corporate or wedding gift, and they love Chinese Best Wishes collection, the soap with four simple Chinese characters, each with a good meaning to wish their loved ones the best. For home decoration, our customers buy our Paris Macaron Collection, My Precious Stones Collection and Summer Soap Popsicle Collection.
Where do you sell your products?
Our products are available at design selected stores including the O.D.S Objects of Desire Store at Siam Discovery in Bangkok, duty free outlets and health shops in Thailand. Retailers from Taiwan and Singapore also buy and sell our products in their countries. We are planning to expand our online distribution channel and may set up our own shop in the future.
